Taking a few days off down at our place in Cornwall, and although I usually use it as an opportunity to get get in some long tough training, I said I would do nothing, ha.
Yesterday I walked 14 miles with my son pushing him in his pram, but by this morning I was itching to run. So I got out the OS map, planned an almost complete ‘trail only’ run, going quite out of the way to Falmouth to get in some miles, nothing too long but just a few hours good running.
It rained really hard last night, so although it was sunny by morning, the ground was flooded from weeks of rain, and very muddy. I followed a route I know for the first 4 miles along old railway lines, but then it was map reading all the way so a little start and stopping. A run in with an aggressive landowner, who was sure the path I was on was his land but I showed him the OS map and explained, but he would not have it and got himself in quite a state, oh well I just kept running.
Then 5 miles later the trail I was on came to an end with a fence directly across the path? Just at that moment the land owner appeared and explained the path had been moved 100 yeards to the left recently? I thought rights of way were difficult to move, I think a few people in Cornwall might be bending the rules. Anyway he was rather nice and took me through his farm so I could continue.
It was very muddy the whole run, and just bliss, ending up meeting friends by the sea in Falmouth for a coffee and steak in the sun, with legs and feet covered in mud and smelling of cow poo.
